January. It’s a month for new starts, health kicks and generally being a hermit. If you are also pregnant then the latter doesn’t apply because you have probably spent the last few months staying in more than you normally would. Thank god it’s been a winter pregnancy that’s all I can say.
I have been trying not to venture to Boots as that usually results in an hour of browsing and then £50+ spent on stuff I definitely already have in my beauty drawers. Thinking about it, £50 is tame. I remember shopping with a friend for a long weekend away in Spain and we would challenge each other as to who will spend the most which ended up £100 or more and my debit card crying imaginary plastic money tears!
So for my favourites this month there are a few things that I have got out of the cupboards to try again and maaayyybbbeeee one or two things that I HAD to purchase. Life or death beauty scenarios, you know?
Super Facialist by Úna Brennan Vitamin C+ Brighten Gentle Daily Micro Polish Wash and Skin Defence Daily Moisturiser
Using a scrub in the morning baffled me at first as this is something I usually keep for a deep clean routine but it leaves my skin really soft and definitely is a lovely way to wake yourself up! The smell is this potent orange and it has anti ageing ingredients (Ferulic Acid – how fancy!) to give you that ‘glow’. Anything that can make me glow that isn’t related to sweaty pregnancy hormones gets a thumbs up from me 🙂
The moisturiser is also great as it’s really thick so gives your skin loads of moisture but doesn’t leave that horrible greasy residue on the surface of your skin. It could be down to my skin just drinking up the product but few weeks in and still doing the same thing. Will definitely be adding this to my core routine.
Simple Kind To Skin Hydrating Cleansing Oil
Being prone to an oily T Zone I have steered clear of cleansing oils in the past but it actually has the opposite effect to what you think. Who knew…oil rids oil? I have never seen the pores on my nose so small!! The oil doesn’t sit on your skin afterwards and leaves your skin feeling really soft. I also use this to remove makeup and it gets off even the stubborn waterproof stuff. Nice and purse friendly too at only £6.99 in Boots. You only need a few drops in the palm of your hand so it lasts a lifetime.
Topshop Brow Pencil
Found this bad boy in my makeup drawers and I have no idea why I stopped using it as its the perfect colour. It also has a spooly (love that word!) on the end which is so useful so you don’t have to buy one separately. Great price at £6.00
Garnier BB Cream
This is a new staple for the makeup bag I think. Sometimes you just don’t want a heavy coverage and just want to nip out to the shops without looking like a zombie…cue BB Cream! Covers imperfections and gives you that ‘no make up-makeup’ look.
Loreal Paris False Lash Superstar X Firbre Mascara
I am slightly disappointed with this if I’m honest. Its a two step process which when your in a hurry doesn’t help and I feel that I could get the same effect with a one step mascara (if not better). I like that it has fibers in it which creates lengthy lashes but I just don’t understand why you have to use two different steps as the fibre end is black and thick anyway. I wont be purchasing again I’m afraid!
NYX Warm Neutrals Pallet
I have been waiting for this for aaaageeesssss. I saw it in Boots as I was walking out and had to go back and purchase (sorry no spend Jan). I just love the deep reds and terracotta colours and for this time of year they are perfect to give you a little colour without loads of eyeliner and smokey eye colours. If you don’t like to have loads of eye shadows then this i a great core pallet. Its £16 in Boots so at just £1 per shadow that’s a complete bargain. And there isn’t one I wouldn’t use!
Non beauty related items….
We have been in a TV box set drought for the last couple of months and someone suggested we watch this and I’m now obsessed. Its a comedy/drama and goes along the lines of…‘on the run from a drug deal gone bad, Mike Ross, a brilliant college-dropout, finds himself a job working with Harvey Specter, one of New York City’s best lawyers.’ If you liked Scandal or Entourage then you will LOVE this. Any other recommendations for TV series? Let me know!
If you haven’t had this warmed up in the microwave then you are missing out. Think dessert but only 107 calories and in the winter months I really crave something nice in the evenings. #wordtoyourmuller
Doesn’t cost a lot and brightens up any home. Ever since we put our house on the market we have had fresh flowers on show and it makes such a difference! A bunch of tulips (my fav!) is only £3 in Tesco and last a week! Winner 🙂
So there we have it. Hope you have enjoyed reading what I have been liking in January. I would say that I will be down to Boots in Feb to browse and spend but I may continue this ‘no spend January’ and continue shopping in my own beauty drawers to see what I can find!
Let me know what you have been loving this month or if you have any recommendations 🙂
Thanks for reading!
